September
1, 2008 ~ Monday...a sunny clear day once again

The honeybell
hostas are blooming with a
scent of honey in the air.

Here's Dave's garden bed filled with sunchokes....

September
2, 2008 ~ Tuesday...the sun shines again...no rain in sight and
a bit more humid...

Ducks and
cormorants were congregating in large groups this morning.

I was so
excited when Dave came in with the first
potatoes he harvested from our garden. He just
reached into the soil and pulled them out.

September
3, 2008 ~ Wednesday...sunny and warm...the evening really cools
down...

We went over
to a friend's kitchen this afternoon to see
first hand how to can tomatoes and peach chutney.
David and I have had zero experience canning and this
was a great learning experience to see how it's done.

September
4, 2008 ~ Thursday...a very hot humid day....plenty of sunshine

Been trying
to balance the checkbook, Brody took over
and didn't have any better luck.

Saw a large gathering of egrets this afternoon.... very spectacular!

Sunset at Gooch's Beach, Kennebunk

September
5, 2008 ~ Friday...a sunny day and not as hot as yesterday

We went to
see the Georgia O'Keefe exhibit at the
Portland Museum of Art tonight.
It was a great exhibit with many black and white
photographs of her and some of her paintings.
The Old Port section reminded me of the feeling of Boston.

September
6, 2008 ~ Saturday...rain begins the day..becoming foggy and
very humid...
by early evening the heavy rains arrive and stay through the
night.

We stopped
at Green Mountain Transplants ( Agway)
and were greeted by Pluto, a sleeping 4 month old
surrounded by all of his toys.

September
7, 2008 ~ Sunday...after torrential rain last night, today turned
out to be
a lovely day..clear and bright with cool breezes and a perfect
day for the
Strutt Your Mutt Event to raise money for the Animal Welfare
Society in Kennebunk.

I met Tristin
and Quincy who were patienty waiting for
the walk to begin. Everyone gathered at Mother's Beach
for a 2 mile walk to Gooch's Beach.
It was a sight to behold!

There could easily have been over 200 dogs ....it was so amazing
and
there was much love in the air for all these best friends and
important
family members.

I domated a custom pet portrait for a raffle with all of the
proceeds to benefit the
Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk.

September
8, 2008 ~ Monday...sunny again and the birthday of our nephew,
Max!

We wish Max
a very Happy Birthday!

In the late afternoon, we quietly
observed this blue heron fishing.

September
9, 2008 ~ Tuesday...overcast and then the rain moves in
and brings along thunder and lightning with it's heavy downpours.

Friends have
this rare pagoda dogwood growing wild in their
woods.

September
10, 2008 ~ Wednesday...sunny with white fairweather clouds...a
beautiful
autumn day.

These 2 small
cantelopes grew in our garden...

Clean crisp air and light as the sun set.

September
11, 2008 ~ Thursday...another beautiful day...

I was so
happy to see the plovers on the beach...
haven't seen many sandpipers this fall yet.

September
12, 2008 ~ Friday...overcast and breezy with rain in the late
afternoon and eve.
Am following the reports on Hurricane Ike...it is enormous and
I worry about all of the
people and animals in it's path in the Gulf as it heads towards
Galveston.

When I got
up this morning I started sorting the piles of
papers that had collected in my studio workspace in the
upstairs of our house...so much to go through and Brody
decided to sleep right on top of everything.

By afternoon,
I was still in the midst of sorting through
everything and Brody was helping.

Dave returned
from helping someone with their
computer at their home and set his laptop on the
couch. Brody can't resist sitting on a computer case.

September
13, 2008 ~ Saturday...it is quite a warm and sunny day til late
afternoon when fog rolls in and it becomes misty.

I was wandering
through the garden this morning and
came upon this butterfly.

Stopped by the Farmer's Market
around noon.

September
14, 2008 ~ Sunday...rain and very breezy... gray and foggy

It feels
good to be walking on the beach on this gray day.

September
15, 2008 ~ Monday...sunny and hot with a strong breeze

Saw the tiniest
Teacup Yorkie puppy on
the beach tonight just before dark.
When we turned
around, we gasped for there
was a giant full moon rising.

September
16, 2008 ~ Tuesday...cloudy and cool but the sun makes an appearance

A most delicate
and beautiful reflection tonight along
the beach.

September
17, 2008 ~ Wednesday..another clear sunny day drifts by

I didn't
realize I was being watched this morning while I worked
on updating Dave's computer tutor website and his Bio, Woodcarving
and Gardening in About the Artists in Maine Memories.

September
18, 2008 ~ Thursday...sunny and cool...a real autumn feeling
to the air...

Brody had
a wide-eyed look as he gazed through the porch
door...

He might
have noticed this dragonfly that landed on the handrail
post.

September
19, 2008 ~ Friday...sun with blue skies and clear brisk air...only
60°,
though if this was winter, that would seem like a heat wave!

A walk on
the beach just before sunset when the light
is golden as the Eleanor Schooner returns to the
jetty.

September
20, 2008 ~ Saturday...sunny and clear ...a beautiful day.

It was also
a day to get caught up on laundry, which makes
Brody very happy!

September
21, 2008 ~ Sunday...in the morning, it is very chilly in the
studio...my hands are frozen
while outside it is a different story...the temperature seems
to be climbing towards 80°.
I open the windows to allow the warmer air inside.
Clouds roll in during the afternoon.

The bittersweet
is yellow ochre and will soon be popping...
Dave collects seaweed for the garden...the tide is high.

September
22, 2008 ~ Monday...the first day of Autumn...sunny, clear and
cool...

Ellie May
and I work on a drawing of "Polly".

I felt I
must do something to celebrate this first day of
autumn so I took out the old bike and rode to the sea.
(I haven't been using my bike all summer)

A surprise visit from a friend who is a caregiver to two baby
red squirrels. She is a very special person and has a gift with
animals. She made the day very meaningful.

September
23, 2008 ~ Tuesday...a sparkling clear day... trying to get things
ready for winter....like heat!

Had the good
fortune to be in the presence of this
Greater Yellowlegs Piper. I was thrilled to observe it.

September
24, 2008 ~ Wednesday...clear and beautiful...I walk at low tide
at mid-day as Dave collects seaweed for the garden.

While at
the beach we met Macey who was getting
ready to go kayaking with her family.

Back in the studio, Ellie May sat on my lap while I worked and
then moved over to her viewing basket and nodded off for a bit.

September
25, 2008 ~ Thursday...it's lovely to have another clear warmish
day

The delicata
squash came from our garden.
It's quite small but we are happy to have it
and hope the others will have a chance to
grow more before the first frost.

Polly looked so comfy sleeping in the sun this afternoon,
I was tempted to take a cat nap, too!

September
26, 2008 ~ Friday...rain morning, noon and night!

Looking over
at the studio this morning
Ellie May was looking back at me!

Polly enjoys
the computer on this rainy afternoon.

September
27, 2008 ~ Saturday...more rain all day and night but quite mild
temperatures,
in fact, we open doors and windows to raise the temperature inside
the house and studio
with the mild outside air.

The rain
brings out the colors of the autumn leaves.

September
28, 2008 ~ Sunday...it's another rainy day and mild....Hurricane
Kyle
misses us and heads north along the coastal waters.

Brody looked
irresistably adorable.

September
29, 2008 ~Monday...the rain has moved out and a dramatic sky
and sea has
taken it's place.

Stopped by
Kennebunk Beach to take in the
incredible clouds and rough seas.

There we
met Edgar, an adorable 10 week
old corgi.

We were pleased
to also meet, Skylar, a Sky Terrier
who had wandered up from the rocky beach to meet Edgar!

September
30, 2008 ~Tuesday...sun and clouds and still on the mild side...

The view
from the Colony as the sun vanishes...
we enjoyed a lovely dinner and conversation with our friends
from Maryland.
