June 11,
2007 ~ Monday ~ sun and clouds..breezy and getting humid

Ellie May
was on the lookout early this morning.

It wasn't til Dave went out that he noticed the
mama snapping turtle across the street in our
neighbor's driveway.
Ever since we started building our house in the
1980's, right around the summer solstice, a very
large mama snapping turtle would emerge from the
brook to locate a sandy spot in which to lay her eggs.
We had alot of sand in our driveway and other spots
when we started our house and she often layed
her eggs somewhere in our yard.
Now she is seen along the sandy patches on the side
of our street, where she digs holes in which to lay
her eggs. We don't know where they are yet but in the
fall when the eggs hatch there will be dozens of baby
snapping turtles in the street, along the side and
traveling through yards to find their way to the brook.

The sunset surprised us as we drove by the beach on the
spur of the moment.

June 12,
2007 ~ Tuesday ~ another day of sun and clouds with gentle breezes
David had harvested
the catnip and left it on the porch to dry.
When he opened the front door he was amazed to see the state
Polly was in.

Polly really
got tangled up in the catnip!

June 13,
2007 ~ Wednesday ~ starts out raining and on the cool side....when
the rain
stops it becomes colder and the wind makes us want to wear a
warm jacket....

On our way
home from errands, adorning a ditch on the
side of the road were Blue Flag irises dancing
in the wind.

A clematis vine is climbing up the side
of our porch and one of the flowers
bloomed much lower than
the others so we could get a good look!

June 14,
2007 ~ Thursday ~ blue clouds and brisk

With some
air in the tires, the old bicycle was ready for
a ride to the Post Office and with the cool air I just kept
on pedalling til I reached the sea.

I was wondering where the ducklings were and was so
happy to see them bobbing in the ocean with their
extended family.

June 15,
2007 ~ Friday ~ sunny... blue skies....just right

Dave and
I took a walk in the evening
on Gooch's Beach...it actually got chilly
but when we met Lilly on the beach, she
had just come running out of the ocean
and was ready to go back in to retrieve
her tennis ball as soon as her Mom
was kind enough to throw it.

Lilly's friends,
Bo and Tonka, came running over to partake in the fun.

June 16,
2007 ~ Saturday ~ sunny... and in the 70's with a sea breeze

This morning
Polly was holding onto her catnip.

Brody was checking out the peony in the
vase on the porch. He actually nibbled
one of the leaves.

We were riding by the Colony Hotel when
we spotted our friend, Mo ( aka Mozart).
He was just a kitten last summer when
he was adopted along with his
brother, Sebastian, by the Hotel.

An early evening walk on the beach was refreshing and
I collected many pocket shells which I like to draw.

June 17,
2007 ~ Sunday ~ some sun and big thunderhead looking clouds that
stay away!
( Happy
Dad's Day!)

Polly appears
to being wearing a
peony hat today...

Brody is dreamy in a basket for two....

When I thought it might rain, I decided to move
my bike to a sheltered spot and that's when I
noticed something very wrong. The inner tube
tire must have exploded from the heat...the
front tire was so flat it was falling off the rim.

June 18,
2007 ~ Monday ~ sunny and not too humid during the day but the
evening air is still

Polly looked
so adorable on her porch
shelf with an apple somehow wedged
between her and the screen.
She loves to lookout over
her garden from her perch.

June 19,
2007 ~ Tuesday ~ another sunny day and breezy...just right

It's comfortable
on the porch today,
and as soon as I sat down to begin working
on a bird painting, Ellie May climbed upon
my lap to study what I was working on
for she is very interested in birds.

A black and
yellow butterfly sailed
through the garden today and disappeared.

A special treat tonight was taking a walk at Goose Rocks
and meeting Gracie who was checking out the same
sandcastle as we were. She has such a friendly
personality and we enjoyed seeing her run!

June 20,
2007 ~ Wednesday ~ cloudy....small showers....humid

I kept seeing
mourning doves today and
and this afternoon Dave told me he
saw a baby dove in the grass.I hurried
over with my camera.

The parents were
nearby but we didn't
quite know if the baby could fly and
were worried about it's safety. I didn't
want to frighten it so I left and snuck
back a while later looking for it in the
grass but it was gone.
I was so stunned
when I turned and
looked up to see the baby with the
mother up in a wood pile as still as
could be.

There's more
to their story....

Tonight the
sky was beautiful with
a sunset in the clouds.

June 21,
2007 ~ Thursday ~ a beautiful sunny day for the summer solstice

In the bright
morning sun, to our surprise,
two baby mourning doves sat side by side
for a brief time and then they were gone
and we never saw them again.

The beach roses, irises, ferns, peonies,
and daisies are some of the plants found
in our garden on this first day of summer.

An evening walk on the beach led me to Woton
( I had done a portrait of Woton in 2004 and to
view it click here: Dog Samples 2004
in the Paintings of Pets section.)
Woton was with Fricka and they had been in
the ocean and were now ready and waiting
very attentively for a treat.

The sea left behind a large tear drop when
the tide went out.

June 22 to
