February 2008

It is so wonderful
to have flowers
blooming
during the
winter.
The touch of
color lifts
one's spirits
on gray winter
days.

February 1, 2008 ~Friday...the morning is gray and sleet is on the way for the rest of the day...
and actually around midnight we had thunder and lightning!

Brody loves his boxes and this one happens to be the
box he came home in from the Animal Shelter when
we adopted him. It's amazing that to this
day he loves being in it for he wasn't too thrilled about
it when it transported him home in June of 2004.

Polly sat out on the porch this morning and
Dave was attracting her attention with a feather!

February 2, 2008 ~ Saturday...the sun is bright and the ice from last night melts quickly...

Dave and I took a windy walk with our shadows
at low tide along Gooch's beach.

While at the Post Office I noticed these robins land
in the top of this tree to eat the berries.

February 3, 2008 ~ Sunday...the gray clouds dominate the day...there is a hint of the
sun in the late afternoon.

Brody leapt into the laundry basket when we
returned from the laundrymat and proceeded to take
his nap stretched out in the clean warm laundry.

February 4, 2008 ~ Monday...sun and clouds and a damp feeling in the air...

The sky is so dramatic as we enjoy a brief walk...

February 5, 2008 ~ Tuesday... I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my eyes to see snow
falling this morning... and it eventually
turned to rain as the day went along...

The new snow delicately outlined the branches...

This cardinal was waiting for a turn at the birdfeeder...

February 6, 2008 ~ Wednesday...it's a rainy day... and we used our free movie passes
to take in a matinee for the first time in too many years...we were the only ones in the theater
so it seemed like a private showing.

Brody stayed warm and cozy on this rainy day.

Saw the grouse again walking through the trellis and
loved the footprints it left behind in the melting snow.

February 7, 2008 ~ Thursday...a snowy day..all is white and calm

Enjoy an afternoon romp through the enchanted
garden and pathways through our snowy yard.

Ellie May loves her flannel pillow case....

February 8, 2008 ~ Friday...the snow gently falls all day..it falls slowly and
is very calm and beautiful...

The orchids resemble graceful dancers on the windowsill
overlooking the softly falling snow.

Polly finds comfort in her blue cat cube.

February 9, 2008 ~ Saturday...the sun is shining through a haze this morning...

Ellie May is helping me to work on my new art...
she's actually keeping me in place so I don't get distracted
and wander off....

February 10, 2008 ~ Sunday...the sun was visible this morning through hazy gray skies
and during the afternoon beautiful big snowflakes filled the air turning to rain and
then into a driving sideways windy snow...the sun appeared through deep blue clouds
late in the day to cast golden light everywhere.

Trying to photograph these loons was very difficult for the wind was blowing the
snow sideways into my line of vision so I had to use a hat to keep the snow off of the lens.

February 11, 2008 ~ Monday...the sun is bright along with a bitter cold strong wind...

Brody is spying on Polly...ready for a
surprise attack if she should move...
but she is totally aware of his presence
and I kindly intervene.

The sea looks cold today!

February 12, 2008 ~ Tuesday...the sun shines today and the paths are icy...
snow is expected late tonight...

The round shape under the branches is our
resident grouse that I happened to notice in the
distance through the studio window.

February 13, 2008 ~ Wednesday...it snowed about 6 or more inches overnight
and all day it rained quite heavily at times....I went out to shovel the wet heavy snow
3 times and then with a sore shoulder, Dave tried to shovel the end of the driveway the was piled
high from the town's snowplow . Luckily, our neighbor came to the rescue
with his plow and helped to push the tremendously heavy snow to the side.
Our driveway is getting narrower and narrower...

Polly is the kitchen helper and she knows
she can wrap
us around her paw for a snack.

February 14, 2008 ~Thursday...the sun is shining on this lovely day...

The rain from yesterday created an unusual
pattern on the snow.
It also turned the pathways and driveway
into ice and spent part of the afternoon
chopping ice!

Took a walk on the beach...

While heading home through town,
we paused to take in the sight
of this red glowing heart and the ducks.

February 15, 2008 ~Friday...it's mostly sunny and seems warmer...ice is melting
on the path...surprise snow flurries appear at 6 pm.

I came downstairs tonight looking for Polly and Brody.
I located Polly in her blue cat cube on the couch.
I was wondering where Brody had gone when
I suddenly spied his little face peeking out from
the other couch's pillow.

February 16, 2008 ~ Saturday...a bright blue day with a strong chill in the air...

These nuthatches are frequent visitors!

"Jack"

We visited Jack and Maddie this morning
who have been on vacation this week from
Washington DC.
They spend their summers in Maine.

February 17, 2008 ~ Sunday...sun and clouds...a damp chill fills the air and a walk on
the beach is too cold for comfort...

Our 14 year old amaryllis bloomed! It is magnificent to see
on a winter's day!

Bundled up this afternoon for a brisk walk against the cold and the wind.

At dusk, I noticed a large shape in the branches
of the small locust tree near the birdfeeders.
It was our resident grouse!

February 18, 2008 ~ Monday...the day begins with much rain and it continues with much fog and
drizzle.

A foggy walk on the beach with David and a gull.

February 19, 2008 ~ Tuesday...a bright sunny day with some fluffy clouds and
strong cold winds...a sudden snow flurry whirls around this afternoon...

This morning we attempted a walk on Goose Rocks Beach.
The strong winds went right through us, chilling us to the bone.
Our walk lasted several minutes!

The amaryllis is in full bloom with flowers the size of
dinner plates.

February 20, 2008 ~ Wednesday...sun and clouds and crisp cold air
the night sky clears for a lunar eclipse...

My camera doesn't have a great zoom but here
is the best I could do to capture the
lunar eclipse tonight. As the earth's shadow slipped
across the moon it created a beautiful copper orange
glow in the clear dark sky.

February 21, 2008 ~Thursday... the rhododendrum leaves were curled up
tight this morning indicating very cold air and though the sun was bright all day
the air remained cold!

Ellie May was very comfortable napping on her cot
this afternoon with her rabbit and
I was tempted to join them!
Spent the afternoon drawing a nuthatch...I am working
on a series of birds at this time.

February 22, 2008 ~Friday... it's snowing...very lightly but it is going to
continue all day...

I have been rearranging my work table to make space for another
basket for Ellie May with the hope that she may prefer her
basket instead of my lap as I work on my art.
I was thrilled as she settled in to this basket and now she
can oversee my work from a new perspective.

February 23, 2008 ~Saturday... this morning the sun returned as I shoveled the light snow that fell
yesterday...

Brody has an interesting way to sit in a chair...

artist paint brush ©NCooperFunk
February 24, 2008 ~Sunday... it's a clear cold day and not a cloud to be seen...

The woodpecker greeted me outside the
front door...

artist paint brush ©NCooperFunk
February 25, 2008 ~Monday... a beautiful sunny day with some warmth in the air...

This duck seemed to be rejoicing...

Today's walk felt warmer...we weren't struggling against the wind
and the sea was very calm.

artist paint brush ©NCooperFunk
February 26, 2008 ~Tuesday... overcast and damp...snow arrives in the late
afternoon...

My hands froze as I studied the
merganser and the loon
through the eye of my camera...

artist paint brush ©NCooperFunk
February 27, 2008 ~Wednesday... everything is slushy after last night's snow and rain...
the day is gray and snow falls once again in the late afternoon into evening.

Brody had slept in late this morning...

artist paint brush ©NCooperFunk
February 28, 2008 ~Thursday... snow is very lightly falling in the morning and the sky
is a beautiful shade of blue in the afternoon...

Polly is looking at Dave with her adoring
eyes!

The sky and sea are my favorite colors this
afternoon.

artist paint brush ©NCooperFunk
February 29, 2008 ~Friday... it is 4 degrees when we wake up this morning and
though it is clear blue skies the air remains so very cold!

Ellie gives a new meaning to a laptop
computer!
