August 1,
2008 ~ Friday ... starts out overcast....
Day two of my Mom's Birthday!

The garden
path is very colorful this morning
after last night's rain.

Wandering through the garden, I noticed all of the
friut beginning to grow... hope they mature before
the cold weather sets in.

The Heartwood College of Art had it's opening reception for their
current exhibit, "CATastrophic". Proceeds go to the
Safe Haven Humane Society and Heartwood. Many of Safe Haven's
Cats were there for adoption. I painted one of their kitties,
Smudge.
Here she is viewing her painting.
Visit Safe Haven's website to see more cats ready
for adoption and read about the
wonderful things they do.

August 2,
2008 ~ Saturday...a heavy mist hangs in the air...cloudy and
humid but cooler...
the rain comes in the evening

A busy morning,
first dropped off some art at the
Goose Rocks Beach Community House for their Art Show.
Then on to the Kennebunk Library to hang my exhibit.
Thank goodness for Dave, he was able to reach the ceiling
without a stepladder and figure out an alternative way to
hang the paintings when we realized the wires that were
normally used were no where to be seen.

August 3,
2008 ~ Sunday...overcast...a bit of sun and rain...still humid

I've been
in and out of the studio so many times
today, and each time I glance over at Ellie May,
who is resting on the porch. I love the way she
crosses her paws.

August 4,
2008 ~ Monday...cloudy with some sun but in the afternoon
the heavy rain taps on the roof once again.

By evening
the clouds are so beautiful with soft shade of pinks.

August 5,
2008 ~ Tuesday...a cloudy start
Happy Birthday
to David!
His birthday wish is to go to the Gluten Free Bakery in Wellls!

It was such
a treat to be able to pick these
blueberries from our yard this morning.

Dave's favorite place for pastries!
It is wonderful to have a gluten free bakery nearby!
Here's a link to Anello's Pastries in Wells, Maine.

August 6,
2008 ~ Wednesday...rain, rain, heavy rain and drizzle

Tonight was
my reception at the Kennebunk Library and it was
lovely to see everyone who stopped by!
I want to thank everyone who helped with the wonderful
refreshments...Lynda who made lemon bread last night and
came over early before work in the rain to deliver it along with
Ruth's scrumptious cookies and a gift of ginger snaps and a huge
chocolate bar from Cindy and cheese and crackers from Shelley.
Then came Denise in a downpour of rain with a
wonderful basket filled with a plate of brownies and one
of chocolate chip cookies, beautiful flowers from her garden
plus some other things. Dawn was a lifesaver.. she made the fruit
and veggie platters, put together the punch and she arranged
the table.
She came in early to the library and set it all up and stayed
the
entire time and helped with the cleanup. Whew! She along with
everyone else took away the stress of making a reception
and I thank you all again! Judy came to the reception with a
beautiful vase of flowers from her garden. I appreciate it all!
I also want to thank my sister, Sharon, who sent a care package!

Judy's Flowers!
I was so happy
to see everyone who came. At times it felt
like a reunion from when we had our gallery
and there were some wonderful surprises from people
I haven't seen in years.

The welcoming table.

August 7,
2008 ~ Thursday...overcast and it seems as though it could rain
but it doesn't
until later in the evening

I love sandpipers!

August 8,
2008 ~ Friday...another cloudy day with a little drizzle...

Brody crawled
under Polly's blanket when he
snuck into her room this morning.

August 9,
2008 ~ Friday...the sun shines....amazing!
We are going to a wedding today...

The view
from the wedding was of the island that I loved
to look at when I spent my summers as a child at my
grandparents cottage at Old Orchard Beach.

The sun shone on the bride (my cousin's daughter)
and it was a very beautiful wedding.

In the evening we attended a free concert at LL Bean in Freeport.
We had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Richie Havens
and it was a beautiful clear evening under the moon.

August 10,
2008 ~ Sunday...sun and clouds

A smiling
frog!

August 11,
2008 ~ Monday...gray and cloudy with light showers in the evening.

Dave received
his Birthday gift in the mail today
from his sister who lives in Germany.
When he opened the heart shaped box,
it was filled with all kinds of catnip mice toys!
We are so excited to share them with Ellie May,
Polly and Brody!

August 12,
2008 ~ Tuesday...cloudy and rain again

The sky looked
threatening as we walked in the evening
and heard distant thunder which fortunately stayed in
the distance.

August 13,
2008 ~ Wednesday..sunny ...nearly all day

We have met
a very friendly sparrow...

August 14,
2008 ~ Thursday...back to clouds but the sun appears also...

When I went
out in the garden this morning to pick
some blueberries, I noticed this little patch of blackberries.

By evening, the fog has rolled in adding an air of mystery.

August 15,
2008 ~ Friday...mostly sunny and the air feels heavy with humidity
towards evening
even though it is cool.

This adorable
corgi greeted us while walking on the beach.

August 16,
2008 ~ Saturday...sunny and beautiful in the morning and then
the giant
thunderhead clouds build...a very dramatic sky...rain and storms...the
sun returns
with a pink sunset.

August 17,

We have become
so fond of a group of
sparrows we enjoy visiting.

2008 ~ Monday...another sunny day and on the warm side...

A hint of
autumn in August.

August 19,
2008 ~ Tuesday...wake up to a cloudy windy day that soon brings
many
summer showers...by late afternoon the clouds move out leaving
fresh crisp autumn like air.

Molly stopped
by with her Mom and
I was captivated by her sweet face.
She also sits with one leg extended
like our cat, Brody.

It is calm
and clear and there's an autumn like chill in the air.

August 20,
2008 ~ Wednesday...a most beautiful day...clear and cool

Had the pleasure
of meeting Jefferson, a Golden Doodle Dog today.

This is Swiss
Chard from our garden and it was
delicious in a recipe with olive oil and garlic.

August 21,
2008 ~ Thursday...sunny and beautiful again

Brody spent
most of the day on the couch with his
catnip toy.

August 22,
2008 ~ Friday...sunny and clear...a sparkling day...
a great day for a reunion with our friends from Florida and the
Martha's Vineyard...

The Night
Heron was fishing this
morning.

August 23,
2008 ~ Saturday...a beautiful clear day...

I love doing
commissions...to capture something
that is meaningful for someone...it may be a pet, house,
child or favorite place... in this case it was to be
an anniversary gift and the subject was the
husband's business.
Once the rough sketch is approved, I start on
the real drawing part with ink and then when I add the
watercolors it becomes alive. I hope it was a wonderful
surprise.

At the bank this morning we saw a sight to behold...
at the drive-up window these 2 Goldens were waiting
for their treats!

August 24,
2008 ~ Sunday...sunny with fair weather clouds and a lovely breeze

I was wandering
through our garden and
came upon this chipmunk!
It's harvest time!

We enjoyed these vegetables from our garden today.
The planting of the vegetable garden got off to a late start
this year and with all of the rain and lack of sunshine
there is not much ready for harvest. We are hoping for a longer
growing season.

August 25,
2008 ~ Monday...overcast and showers and then sunshine

First thing
this morning as I stepped out onto the top
front step, something jumped beside me, it was a toad!
By the time I got my camera it had jumped over to the
other side of the step and was partially hidden.
When I returned later and was wondering where it was,
I was startled to see it in an empty bird's nest sitting
among our plants on our front step.

August 26,
2008 ~ Tuesday...feels like an autumn day...clear and comfortable

Looking from
the upstairs window this
morning, we saw this young dove
resting on the flower pots.

August 27,
2008 ~ Wednesday...another beautiful day...the sun sets earlier
and earlier
and the light is so clear...

A walk to
the jetty tonight just before sunset...a pink cast
to the pale blue sky and sea.

August 28,
2008 ~ Thursday...another beautiful day...

Got up early
and noticed these young doves
in a pine tree near the house.
They were there all day long...it seems to be a
favorite spot.

August 29,
2008 ~ Friday...another clear sunny day...

In the morning
we took down my art show at the
Kennebunk Library. It was so wonderful to exhibit there...

In the evening we set up the tent and panels for the Craft Fair
that will be tomorrow on the Green in Kennebunkport.

August 30,
2008 ~ Saturday....overcast and humid with some sun
in the afternoon... The School Around Us Craft Fair is today...
set up early this morning and it goes til 4 pm.

While at
the Fair, I met Moose, a 9 week old pup,
for the first time.
I know her sister Puddn' ( I have painted her).

Bosum and Claire stopped by again this year.

I also met Skipper...who looked adorable in the
carrier.

All in all, it was a great day for reconnecting with people
and seeing some charming dogs!

August 31,
2008 ~ Sunday...a beautiful dreamy day...enjoyed seeing friends
who stopped by...

As we drove
through Dock Square, the auto in front of us
had this interesting couple in the backseat taking in the
sights, sounds and scents of the last day of August.
