April 1,
2008 ~ Tuesday... a gray morning with a spring chill in the air
as birds sing
competing for their tune to be heard.

This woodpecker had the suet to
herself in the early
morning...the buds are on the tree....a sign of spring...

April 2,
2008 ~ Wednesday... The howling wind moved in overnight and blew
away the gray
leaving a bright blue cold windy day.

Reflecting
on the many colors in the sea...

April 3,
2008 ~ Thursday... blue skies and calm...

A late afternoon
walk at Goose Rocks beach...
the waves make a lovely pattern as they gently lap the shore
at low tide.

April 4,
2008 ~ Friday...a very gray wet day...begins with heavy rain
that could
almost be snow....turns to a driving misty drizzle and fog...

On this rainy
day, a bright spot was seeing Cheddar in the
driver's seat parked beside us while doing errands in town.

April 5,
2008 ~ Saturday... a gray day ensues with some clearing of blue
and later
back to gray and cold...

Brody is
still trying to get close to Polly...
One of our goals is to grow vegetables this year...
In the sunny window are the empty trays waiting for the vegetable
seeds.

April 6,
2008 ~ Sunday... oh, it is cold and gray and drizzly again...

Here's the
first woodchuck surveying our yard this year.
We will have to make a secure fence around the vegetable
garden though his underground entrance or exit comes out
inside our garden area....

April 7,
2008 ~ Monday... the sun returns with bright blue skies...

There was
a narrow strip of beach left for walking at tide high tide
this morning.

The late afternoon sun sent a beautiful light through the
orchids in our window.

April 8,
2008 ~ Tuesday... another sunny day and milder temperatures...
a good visit with gallery friends in the afternoon who are from
Georgia.

The tide
is the highest we've seen at Gooch's Beach
this early afternoon...

David saw
this very large beaver down by the brook in the late
afternoon...

April 9,
2008 ~ Wednesday... the sun shines once again...not quite warm...still
wearing a winter jacket...

Yellow is
the theme today... saw my first goldfinch
and the crocuses are multiplying through the lawn.

April 10,
2008 ~ Thursday... even early this morning, there was warmth
in the air...
it is the first sunny day that feels about 70 degrees...I worked
out on the porch...
and David in the garden.

This red
squirrel had a lovely picnic
at this bird feeder all day...

The warmth
of the day brought out honey
bees that discovered the crocus.

April 11,
2008 ~ Friday... a bit of sun in the morning then clouds roll
in with some cold
rain in the afternoon.

It's Polly's
Birthday!

On the beach, a gull is having a clam dinner!

April 12,
2008 ~ Saturday... around 8 am. the morning sky seems to be getting
darker
instead of lighter...a strong wind moves in and then fog....
it's on the cool side until a bit of sun appears in the afternoon
to vanish again
with cool gray skies.

Brody has
talken to a certain spot on the couch.

I quietly observed the eider ducks at the
beach and listened to their call...

April 13,
2008 ~ Sunday... a cloudy morning with a little sunshine in the
afternoon...
then the air is very clear with beautiful light and deep blue
gray clouds streaked with
rain and sunrays...

Gooch's Beach
on Sunday afternoon.

April 14,
2008 ~ Monday... a cloudy cool beginning to the day leads to
clarity and sun and clouds....

On the way
to the beach, I glanced over at the tidal basin and saw
many gulls circling a very large bird and chasing it up the river...
When we realized it was an eagle they were chasing away,
I hurried as fast as I could to undo my seatbelt and grab the
camera
so I could try for some photos...this was the best I could do.

At the beach, dogs of all sizes and shapes were out walking!

April 15,
2008 ~ Tuesday... a cloudless day...blue skies and crisp air...

Brody has
been staring at Polly in her blue cube
for so long that today he took action and tried it
out...
he loved it so much he was there all
afternoon into evening...

Dave is surveying the yard...so much to take care of...
pruning, planting and getting a vegetable garden into shape.
Not much blooming yet...

April 16,
2008 ~ Wednesday... sunny with blue skies and in the 60's...
thankful for the warmer temperatures for our heater is malfunctioning...
Saw out first egret of this year...

Looks like
Brody has taken over one of Polly's favorite places...
now she's afraid to go in it when he isn't there.
We're trying to come up with alternatives for her using our own
cat
psychology.

April 17,
2008 ~ Thursday... the sky is blue with sunshine all day and
warm enough
to hang the laundry out... the sun keeps the house warm as we
spend another day with a broken heater. Several daffodils are
blooming in a warm
spot over the hill and near the brook.

It's in need
of some repair, but I love this
little red wagon that we found at the recycle
room. It may become my garden cart.

At the beach, I watched this joyful Golden
Retriever romp in the sea.

April 18,
2008 ~ Friday... sunny and in the 70's ..now it feels like summer..
the ants are out and about!

The daffodils
are brilliant...

The full
moon lights the evening sky...

April 19,
2008 ~ Saturday... sunny and very warm

The last
patch of snow in our yard will surely be gone
by the time we return from our trip.

We traveled
to visit family for the weekend....
everything was so green in Connecticut and many
more flowers were blooming as were blossoms on trees.

April 20,
2008 ~ Sunday... a lovely day in Connecticut ... sunny and mild

In my parents'
backyard, a star magnolia
was in bloom, planted many years ago by birds!

April 21,
2008 ~ Monday... another beautiful day...and the birthday of
our niece, Rose.

Heading home,
we pass by the Capitol building in Hartford...

April 22,
2008 ~ Tuesday... a warm day inland but with cool breezes at
the beach...

Brody claimed
Dave's travel case to make sure we don't
leave again.

While Dave collected seaweed for the garden,
I took a brisk walk along the beach...
I had my winter jacket on because of
the sea breeze.

April 23,
2008 ~ Wednesday... today was the first day this year that really
felt like
summer has arrived early...even the black flies made an appearance.

Polly stretched
out on the front porch
enjoying the warmth!

Ellie May enjoyed spending most of the day on her porch at
the studio ....I rearranged things and she is sitting with one
of Dave's bas-relief woodcarvings of a whale.

April 24,
2008 ~Thursday... such a beautiful day...clear, warm but not
uncomfortable and breezy.

What is a
pumpkin doing on our lawn?
This was a special pumpkin that Dave grew and harvested
last fall...it sat in a cool corner of his workroom all this
time
and amazingly it still looks fine!

The small pink star magnolia bloomed
today...I found that I kept going over to
gaze at it's beauty all day. I am
anxious to paint it.

April 25,
2008 ~Friday... another beautiful morning with sun and warmth
and then by late afternoon some clouds roll in with cooler air...

Dave was
digging in the garden about 2 feet down and hit
something he thought was a rock...he pulled out a very
heavy and old axe head.
He went around to the local historical museums to see if anyone
could date it...so far no luck.

Brody spent the morning under this couch to spy on Polly
and be closer to her.

The cedar waxwings were back in large numbers!

April 26,
2008 ~ Saturday... blue skies and a nip in the air ...

Early evening
we went to get our eggs from Lisa's chickens!
It's so wonderful to have fresh eggs and to meet the chickens!

We were greeted by Dakota...

and also met Tina, Rocky and Moose.

April 27,
2008 ~ Sunday... a gray day and much cooler...
saw some interesting birds in the late afternoon when we took
a ride...
a yellowleg sandpiper and a snowy egret!

I was in
the studio tonight and about to walk back to the house
when my flashlight lit up a
big shape on the birdfeeder in front of the house...
I soon realized it was a raccoon who also noticed me and
looked content to stay where it was.
Ummm, I really didn't want to walk up to it .
I couldn't get Dave's attention in the house
so I called my father-in-law and asked him to call the house.
I told him that I would not answer the phone
so Dave would pick it up.
That worked...my father-in-law told Dave I was trapped and
needed to be rescued!

April 28,
2008 ~ Monday... was surprised to see the day begin with sun
but
as the afternoon approached clouds rolled in with heavy rain
into the night.

This sparrow
was a constant visitor to the birdfeeder in the
pouring rain.

The robin sat patiently as raindrops
clung to the branches of the crabapple
tree.

April 29,
2008 ~ Tuesday...rain in the morning....rain in the afternoon
and
rain in the evening....

Sitting with
Polly on this rainy day!

The daffodils
were drooping in the rain.
The yellow in the yard glowed in the dark grayness of the day.

The brook was raging and overflowing its banks.

Guess who's back tonight!
This time I was in the house
and about to go over to
the studio after having a conversation
with Dave about the raccoon.
He said it wouldn't be there again.
No sooner had I opened the front door and
just about to step out of the porch, when I
saw our raccoon visitor eating from the
bird feeder. I quietly went back inside and
watched from the window.

April 30,
2008 ~ Wednesday...blue skies and sun all day helps to take the
chill
out of the house now that we don't have heat.

Brody is
getting ever so closer to Polly with out totally upsetting her!

These beautiful lambs were following their Mom to safety...
