~ part one ~
I am a fine
artist &
illustrator specializing
in detailed
ink drawings combined
with delicate watercolors.
I started drawing
at a
young age and never
stopped.
Although I didn't grow
up with pets in our home,
I always loved animals.
"Green Eyes" was a
toy cat that was my good
buddy.
While, growing up in
Connecticut,
Maine always felt like
a second home to me
for I spent every
summer with my
family at our wonderful
grandparents cottage
on the Maine coast.
Studying art the
University of Connecticut,
I graduated with a BFA .
I majored in oil painting
and gravitated towards
the intimacy of
watercolors and pen & ink.
Upon graduating,
I set out with my
drawing books, pens
and paints to discover
the world around me
and realized that
art is my life.
As a struggling artist,
I bounced around between
the city (Boston),
the sea and the
country.
I first lived in Boston
where I recorded my
everyday observations
in my drawing books.
I walked everywhere
and was fascinated by
the architecture, the
diversity of people and
finding nature amid the
concrete.
A stark contrast from
Boston was when a
friend introduced me
to Martha's Vineyard.
The clean air, charming
gingerbread cottages
in Oak Bluffs, beauty
of nature and the sea
and the slower pace
of life inspired me.
That was a lovely
diversion but then I
was back in the city.

~ part two ~
When the city
became
too much, I moved
to the country where
I shared an art studio
at the
Farmington Valley
ArtsCenter in Avon
Connecticut.
It was in an old
brownstone gunpowder
factory, nestled in the woods,
that had been converted
into an art center.
My love of the sea led me to Marblehead, where I had a
little art show and met
David, who bought one of
my paintings.
David and I married and
lived in Collinsville,
Connecticut with our
first cat, Lily.
Then upon moving to
Kennebunkport Maine,
we opened the
Cooper Funk Gallery
in 1980 to display our art.
The gallery also became
know as Maine Memories
in 1996 when David
created our website :
www.mainememories.com
about the studio and gallery.
We live with
Polly, Ellie May and Brody,
our 3 wonderful
cats with very distinct
personalities.
.
You can see more
about our cats and
other furry
friends
including a tribute to
Polly
& Pumpkin.
David and I built our own
house & studio. David also
designed, planted & tends the beautiful perennial gardens
surrounding our home.
Ellie May, my
studio cat,
and I work together
everyday.
From our windows,
we have a bird's eye
view of the gardens and
can observe all of the
little critters that visit
the yard...chipmunks,
woodchucks, squirrels,
and the birds.
An inspiration for both
of us!
